Assembly and Issues

Last night I worked to get everything lined up inside the guitar, and wire up what I could.  Like connecting the switch to the pre-amp.

This morning I got the body wet sanded, and polished.

This afternoon I started cutting the slots in the nut, and assembling the guitar.

Unfortunately, even with all of the work I did getting the neck angle steeper, and shortening the height of the bridge, I still ended up way off.  I will try to sand some height out of the bridge, and see if I can make this one work.  If not, I may have to go looking for a new bridge.

Also, I am getting sound out of the piezo in the bridge, but I am not getting anything out of the magnetic pickups.

AHHHHH!

Today's post was supposed to be about how I sprayed the last coat of lacquer, instead it is about how destructive a force gravity can be.  This is what it looked like while the lacquer was still wet.

And here is how it looked after I cleaned off the bits of dirt.  I will have to give it a couple more coats to make it shiny, but I will have to live with the scar.

Started Spraying Lacquer

Decided the weather was favorable and borrowed my dad's compressor so I could start spraying nitro.

Here is how it looked after two coats.

Heel carved

I got the heel carved at lunch today.  I will need to give it a little more sanding before I grain fill it.

Working on the heel

Now that the neck is glued in, I am doing some clean up and shaping on the heel.  I also made the cover for the back from some scrap mahogany from my last build.  When that is done, and it is grain filled, it will be ready to spray.

All Glued Up

The neck is glued up.  I need to do some clean up and shaping where the neck and body meet.  Then it will be ready for lacquer.

Neck gluing!!

Prettying up the fretboard

I prettied up the end of the fretboard. Next is gluing the neck to the body.

Almost ready for glue

I need to trim about 1/2-3/4" of the back edge of the fretboard, and then I will be ready to glue the neck on.  After that it is lacquer and electronics.

Drilling pilot holes

I took some time in between grain filling sessions to drill some pilot holes, and do some final checking on the bridge location.  Also verified that the neck was lined up properly.

Grain filling begins

Decided to give egg white a try as a grain filler.

Pickup Routes complete

Made some dust at lunch time today.  Finished the pickup routes.  It's a tight fit, but should be good.

Neck Angle

finally got the neck angle steap enough.
